Rio Blanco County Trails Master Plan, ColoradoRBC Trails Master Plan Cover

GOC led a process to develop a county-wide trails master plan for Rio Blanco County, Colorado. The County is over 2 million acres in size; of which, 75% is federal and State lands. The trails plan defines over 1,000 miles of recreation routes on existing and future roads and trails throughout BLM and US Forest Services lands. The recreation routes allows for multiple forms of trail-based recreation including OHV recreation, hunting, mountain biking, and others. The vision is to create a long distance trail system which provides exceptional recreation experiences that lead to economic growth in the County. An extensive public outreach process was managed and coordinated with a steering committee made up of government agencies, and recreation groups. The master plan defines destinations, trail types, trail locations, special recreation areas, and locations for related facilities. The plan also define priorities, organizational structure, funding and other types of support. The plan was completed in September, 2014. Inventory of Roads and Trails on BLM Lands in WY, NV, CA, NM & SD 

Partnering with Logan Simpson Design to GPS inventory of over 10,000 miles of roads, trails and recreation on BLM lands at multiple sites throughout the western USA. Captured over 20,000 geotagged photos to document conditions and the location of infrastructure such as campsites, signs, gates, etc. GIS Data from the study will be used by BLM as part of travel management planning. Pembina Gorge Master Plan


Pembina Gorge State Recreation Area Master Plan, Walhalla, North Dakota

GOC led development of a recreation master plan for the State Recreation Area and its vicinity. Managed extensive public involvement in a visioning and planning process to improve the local economy and outdoor recreation opportunities. Assessment of the Buckman Motocross Track and OHV Park

Led a safety and recreation assessment of this OHV park located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The purpose the study was to identify safety improvements to the existing OHV trails as well as improving safety for spectators. An inventory of existing trails, facilities and visitor use was conducted using GPS, digital photography and video. Meetings were held with City staff and park visitors to discuss how the park is currently used and what improvements would be desirable in the future. The study also recommended other programs, information and trails to improve and diversify recreation opportunities in the park. Client: City of Santa Fe. 2013 


Route 66 State OHV Park Concept and Master Plan

Directed the development of a concept and master plan to establish a new state off-highway vehicle park located 20 miles west of Albuquerque, New Mexico.  The park will provide a safe environment for youth and beginners to learn OHV riding skills and ethics. Approximately 15 miles of trails were designed on-site including the following trails: children’s, youth motorcycle, youth ATV, beginner motorcycle, and beginner ATV - ROV. Skills development stations at key locations on trails will provide both a little challenge as well as practice opportunities. A primary and secondary trailhead as well as a safety training site were also designed. The master provides Game and Fish with a guiding document that can be used to gain support for the project; construct and then manage the park. Rampart Trails Map

Design of OHV Trail in Helena National Forest

Designed a 7.8 mile 50 inch wide OHV the Lincoln Ranger District of Helena National Forest in Montana. The trail provides access to a US Forest Service fire tower and a popular overlook at the top of Stonewall Mountain. One portion of the designed trail replaces an existing trail that has erosion issues and a poor recreation experience. The other portion of the trail provides and alternative route to the Stonewall Mountain trail instead of visitors riding on a gravel road. The alternative trail alignment would also reduce the miles of road open to public use in critical Grizzly Bear habitat. The trail was designed to provide an outstanding recreation experience and reduce the need for maintenance due to proper water drainage. Rampart Range OHV Trails Map

Designed a new map for 145,000 acres of the Rampart Range Motorized Recreation Area located in the South Platte Ranger District of Pike National Forest; located southwest of Denver, Colorado. The map was designed to provide a beautiful illustration of the landscape, 135 miles of OHV trails and other recreation opportunities. One side is a large map and the other side has a map blow-up map; as well as a wealth of information about how to recreate, stay safe and be responsible. The map was designed to be folded to pocket size or displayed on a wall. 3000 copies of the map were printed in the first run and it is for sale in print as well as through the PDF Maps smart phone app.

Smart Recreation Maps for National Forests in Colorado

Provided US Forest Service motor vehicle use maps (MVUMs) through one central webpage and in various formats including geospatial PDFs, Google Earth Files and geotiff files. All 50 MVUMs for Colorado were formatted to allow for their use on smart phones and tablets without the need for a cell signal. The device shows the users current location on the map and allows basic GPS functions. Client: Stay the Trail - Colorado. 2013


Trail Options to Reroute Captain Jacks Motorcycle Trail, Colorado Springs, CO

Led the development of optional routes for the Captain Jacks multi-use single track motorcycle trail in the Pikes Peak Ranger District of Pike National Forest. The existing trail needs to be located further from Bear Creek due to the presences of a rare Greenback Cutthroat Trout species. Optional routes are being evaluated by the US Forest Service for consideration in alternatives development. El Mirage OHV Practice and Training Area Master Plan, Victorville, CA

Design for an OHV training and practice area in the El Mirage Recreation Area located in the Barstow Field Office. Will prepare a complete site design will be prepared for the practice area in 2013.Client: BLM & National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council. 2012-2013

Carnegie State Vehicle Recreation Area General Plan, Livermore, CA

Assisting in the development of a general plan and environmental impact statement for this State Park. The Park area has doubled in size and the plan will provide direction for both the existing and expansion areas. Developed management zoning to provide guidance for OHV recreation, resource protection and administration. The plan is expected to be completed in 2014. Client: California State Parks & AECOM. 2013.


ATV Trails Plan for K-M Boy Scout Camp, Lewistown, MT

Design of 10 miles of ATV trail on the K-M Boy Scout Ranch located near Lewistown, Montana. The trails will be used in a Boy Scout safety training program. Client: Boy Scouts of America, National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council. 2012
